Female altitude record, female speed record, first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic, first person to fly solo from Hawaii to the continental US. Amelia Earhart spent her adult life setting and breaking aviation records. Born in 1897 in Kansas, she dreamed already as a little girl while climbing trees and building roller coasters of flying. In 1920 she decided to get her pilot license, working 28 jobs to finally finance her dream at age 26. She worked tirelessly to promote women in aviation and technical fields. In 1937, she took on her greatest challenge: to be the first pilot to circumnavigate the equator. She flew nearly around the world, but while attempting to land on a Pacific island near the end of her journey her plane crashed and she was never seen again. Her legacy of courage, willpower and dedication to the realization of her dreams have continued to inspire people and foremost women ever since.
“Everyone has oceans to fly, if they have the heart to do it. Is it reckless? Maybe. But what do dreams know of boundaries?”
