While researching eagles for a commission piece, I stumbled across the photo story by Asher Svidensky about the future of eagle hunting in Mongolia. Of particular poignancy is his portrayal of Aisholpan, a 13 year-old Mongolian girl who is striving to break through the tradition that only men can carry on the tradition of eagle hunting.
It is the absolute joy, freedom and strength captured in this image that made me want to paint it.
