“After midnight, the moon set, and I was alone with the stars. I have often said that the lure of flying is the lure of beauty, and I need no other flight to convince me that the reason flyers fly, whether they know it or not, is the aesthetic appeal of flying.” Amelia Earhart
Beauty, strength, wonder -- a glimpse into the expanse of the universe on a starry night, the moon shining in breathtaking glory, a butterfly alighting on a breeze, turbines propelling us through the skies, a woman going where no woman has ever gone before. Amelia Earhart was a woman of nearly unrivalled grace but also a fighter, full of dreams and tenacity. She spent her adult life setting and breaking aviation records for altitude, speed, cross-Atlantic solo flight, first solo flight from Hawaii to the continental US,worked tirelessly to promote women in aviation and technical fields and encouraged women not to hide behind gender norms. For her, being a woman was no reason to limit one’s ambitions; it simply meant having to fight harder to reach for the stars and discover the world around. Amelia Earhart lived — and died — for her dreams. Her legacy of courage, willpower and dedication to the realization of her dreams have continued to inspire people and foremost women ever since.
“Please know that I am aware of the hazards. I want to do it because I want to do it. Women must try to do things as men have tried. When they fail, their failure must be a challenge to others.”
From the "FEMMOBILITY - What do dreams know of boundaries. Dynamic woman: groundbreaking past, present and future" series in cooperation with the Wiener Linien.
