Death Defying Acts
This is the last ray of sunshine before the sun slips behind the mountain on a late fall day. On days like these, the blues of the sky have a teal-green tinge and the sunshine hangs heavy and golden in the air, settling like fog between the valleys of the peaks.
The paint itself gets the spotlight in this piece--the long drips creating texture, movement and light--while the is rough and expressionistic brushwork adds further interest, depth and mystery to the image depicted.
(Dürnberg and Watzmann mountains, Austria and Bavaria, Germany--or, the view from my studio at the time painted.)
